Figuring out how we were going to the do the nursery was fairly easy.  I had decided a while ago that I wanted something Eric Carle inspired.  Eric Carle is one of my most favorite children’s authors.  Being a preschool teacher, I came to love all of his colorful books and couldn’t wait until I had a little one of my own to read them to.   We decided to go with The Very Hungry Caterpillar.  When we first chose to go this route, we were all on our own.  There were a few pictures of other nurseries on the internet… but most of them looked like the book had thrown up all over the walls.  We wanted something a little more subtle.  Something that wouldn’t send our future son or daughter into sensory overload.  A few months after we started planning, Pottery Barn came out with their own Very Hungry Caterpillar line.  Those jerks stole my idea!  And since I’m not one to make things easy for myself (or my poor husband), I made the decision to NOT get any of the stuff from Pottery Barn. I was going to make everything myself (with help from Chris, of course!).  It took us forever… and technically there is still one part of the room that isn’t done yet.  Hopefully it will get finished before Logan turns 5!

This is a name plaque that Logan’s Aunt Amanda made for him.  It is hanging on the door to his room.  Aunt Amanda is so crafty that she looked up the technique that Eric Carle uses when he creates the art for his books and used the same technique to make the name plaque.

“In the light of the moon, a little egg lay on a leaf.”  That is the first line of The Very Hungry Caterpillar.  The little egg is the first thing you see when you walk into Logan’s room.  It’s difficult to see from this picture, but there is a little white egg painted on one of the leaves.  On the other side of the tree is the caterpillar right after he hatched out of the egg.  He’s on the search for food!

Here is a close up of that caterpillar.  Apparently, Chris is an artist and didn’t know it.  He painted most of this room all by himself.  Have I mentioned how much I love him??

So (following the story), our skinny little caterpillar is hungry after he hatched and he goes on the search for some food.  Luckily, crafty Aunt Amanda made some food for our little caterpillar.

After eating all of that food, the caterpillar is now fat.  It totally fits that we chose to put the fat caterpillar right over the crib… since our little one has decided to be a fat baby. 🙂

Close up of the crib bumpers that I made.  I’m not gonna lie, I’m pretty proud of myself for actually finishing them.  I procrastinated big time on them because I’m not really much of a seamstress.

Close up of the fat caterpillar.  Like I said before, Chris really is amazing….

Tree painted in the corner.  Unfortunately, I don’t have a wide enough lens to get the whole wall in one shot.

Close up of the cocoon hanging in the tree.  Our fat caterpillar is on his way to becoming a butterfly.  Unfortunately, the butterfly is the one part of the room that is not finished.  Chris is working on painting it on canvas instead of the wall like the other parts of the mural.  When it is finished it will hang above the glider (which is also not in the room at the moment as I have found that I use it more when it’s in the living room.)

My favorite part of the entire room… the changing table.  It’s been perfect for organizing our cloth diapers (that’s what is in the baskets) and it’s freaking cute!  The shelves above the table were painted by Chris.  The sock monkey on the shelf on the left was hand sewn by Aunt Amanda.  The tree on the right shelf was purchased during our ‘Pre-Baby Adventure’ to California.  We found it while exploring Venice Beach and decided to get it because of the tree theme we have going on in the room… and on the blog. 🙂   The “Logan”  picture on the right hand shelf is an awesome shape collage made by Aunt Ashley.

The window sill.   We need some more shelf space in the room.
