Day 9 of our Epic First Annual Road Trip didn’t actually involve any road tripping. Well, other than a trip to the thrift store, the marina laundromat, and the park. Yes, our first full day in Anacortes was full of running errands.

On Monday, I realized very quickly that I did not pack enough warm clothes for the kids. I knew it would be cooler here in the PNW, but I had no idea how chilly… especially when the wind blows or when you’re in the shade. In an effort to pack lightly, I only brought a couple pairs of pants and one lightweight jacket/hoodie for each kiddo (along with a crap ton of t-shirts and shorts). Our first night here, all 3 kids got their jackets filthy and/or wet and didn’t have anything else to put on. Mom fail. Luckily, it was already time to do laundry again (our second time since this trip started 9 days ago!) so we made a plan for Julie to go do laundry at Douglas’ marina (because it was cheaper than the regular laundromat). But first, we stopped by a little thrift store and I picked up a couple of sweaters/pull overs for each of the kids. I got 6 items for under $10– can’t beat thrift store prices! After we dropped Julie off, I took the kids to the park.

The sidewalk leading up to the park had little poems stamped into the concrete that were decorated with bits of glass and beads. This one says, “There’s always more than one way in. Come. Stay long enough to know what brought you here, what you leave behind, what you take away.”

This kid loves to swing. He would swing all day everyday if I would stand there and push him.

We left the park and had to run by the grocery store. While there, Atticus threw the biggest public tantrum of his life. It started while we were trapped in the check out line because he wanted a balloon and I said no. It escalated when he decided he wanted some gum and I said no. It escalated even further when he started screaming for candy and I said no. I have never had so many people staring at me. Fun times.

We went to go get Julie and saw some deer along the way. There are deer everywhere!

Our laundry wasn’t quite finished so we drove around for a while checking out the town. It’s so beautiful here.

We finished up day 9 with a popcorn picnic and a movie in my bed. We have a big day tomorrow, so we needed the kids to get to bed semi-early and get a good night’s sleep.

Hopefully we will have a more exciting day tomorrow to blog about!
