** And yes, I realize that we have already gone on our vacation and come back. I started this post before we left… and am just now getting around to finishing it.
I mentioned here that we are going on a trip out of state to visit family and because this decision was made so quickly, I was scrambling to figure out what we were going to do in regards to our diapers.
Before I get into what decisions were made, I would first like to say thank you for all of the messages, emails, texts, and fb comments about this subject. I am a worry wart who hates to make decisions, and I tend to blow things WAY out of proportion. After a few deep breaths and conversations with friends, I am feeling very confident in our choice. I guess I should also thank that awesome husband of mine for putting up with my crazy. 🙂 PS… I am working on that part of myself!
So, to refresh your memory, our choices were to take our cloth, use a hybrid cloth cover/disposable insert system, or order some ‘green’ disposables. We decided to go with the hybrid system, specifically, the GroVia system. We already have 4 covers in our stash, so I only needed to get a couple more. I went overboard (as usual) and bought 5. I had to, though. GroVia recently released new prints and colors and I couldn’t make a decision on which one I wanted. So, I used my entire diaper budget and got them all. The stripey one in the bottom left was given to me by a sweet Momma in our playgroup. She uses BG, so she had no need for this cover.

So, we have those new ones, paired with the ones that we already have. Not pictured is our awesome cover that has planes on it. Someone decided to poop his pants and was wearing said cover during poop explosion. Needless to say, it was in the wash during this photoshoot. And yes, Logan wears that purple cover. In fact, he ROCKS that cover.

Here is a collage of pictures of the Grovia Biosoakers that I ordered. It’s just like the middle of a disposable diaper, complete with gussets to catch poo and an elastic tab to secure it to the cover. We were warned by another cloth Momma to NOT use the adhesive tab. Apparently it’s so adhesive that it leaves a sticky residue on the covers. That would make me very sad.

We decided to do a couple of test runs pre-trip. The GroVia Biosaoker worked great during the day. I even left one on him for 5 hours and it was still absorbing. I probably could have left it on him a little longer, but he gets changed so often (since he’s in cloth) that it felt weird to not change him. Unfortunately, the Biosoaker did not work through the night. Logan is a fairly heavy wetter and has been known to soak through diapers at night. I am NOT going to wake a sleeping baby to change his diaper, so I had to figure something out. Since the Biosoaker has a waterproof liner, you cannot double them up… which is what we do with his cloth inserts for nighttime. We use 2 of them. But Flip disposable inserts do not have a waterproof liner and can therefore be doubled up. We decided to use a Biosoaker on the bottom, and a Flip insert on top. Worked perfectly for our test run night! Here is a collage of the Flip inserts with the Biosoakers

We ordered our diaper covers and GroVia Biosoakers from a website called Kelly’s Closet. They are always running coupons and we just so happened to order our diapers during the ‘order a certain amount, get a free pocket diaper sale’. Here’s our new pocket diaper. It’s a FuzziBuns. We didn’t have one of those in our stash, so I am excited to try out a new diaper! Yes, I get excited about the strangest stuff nowadays.
Well, I’m glad that I figured it all out. Now, let’s just hope that it works while we travel!
