Saturday morning we woke up and had a leisurely breakfast at camp. In hindsight, we should have had a quick meal and hit the trail early. The plan was to hike the Lighthouse Trail– a nearly 6 mile round trip trail out to a famous rock formation (called a hoodoo) that resembles a light house. This trail is notoriously hot and has very little shade, which is why leaving earlier in the day would have been better! The plan was to wear Lorelei on my back and push the boys as far as I could in the stroller. Unfortunately, the terrain was too difficult for the stroller to last very long. I think we were able to push it about 1/2 mile in before abandoning it on the side of the trail.

When we decided to turn around (at around the 1.5 mark), Valerie volunteered to come back with me so Chris could hike on with the group and see the Lighthouse. Like I mentioned in a previous post, Val grew up in and around the Canyon, so she’s seen the Lighthouse many times before. Here are Chris’ photos from his hike:

When we got back to camp, we pretty much spent the remainder of the day resting. When the rest of the group got back, we had an easy dinner sitting around the campfire. We bathed the kids and then tried to get them to bed early, but for some reason, they were full of energy! Logan flipped and flopped and rolled around in his bunk for nearly an hour and a half before finally giving in to sleep. Lorelei crawled all around our bed and played for a good hour as well. Needless to say, I was super frustrated by the time they all fell asleep… I just went to sleep myself.

Annnddddd…. My snap story from Saturday:
