Day 4 started with a train ride, as usual. Lorelei is a pro now.
The plan this day was to start at the Rockefeller Center, but first we had a very important stop to make… the Nintendo Store! It was so cool! It makes me happy that my boys love the same games that Chris and I loved and played as kids. Getting to experience Mario and Zelda with them is awesome!
Then we walked over to Rockefeller Plaza. It was beautiful and full of so much art. Plus, it really made me miss watching 30 Rock.
Is that you, Kratos?!
This mosaic was absolutely incredible.
Then we headed over to the Museum of Modern Art to see a few pieces of art that Logan and I have been studying in our co-op art class this semester. Mostly, I wanted to see Frida. She’s the whole reason we came on this trip in the first place.
A little Van Gogh. I’ve loved The Starry Night since high school. It was incredible to stand in front of it. To see the actual texture and the brush strokes of the painting. So, so beautiful.
And a little Picasso. He’s another artist that we’ve been studying this semester. Logan had to get a photo with the Three Musicians and then also with Monet. It made my heart so happy that he was excited to see these pieces that we’ve learned about!
FRIDA!!!
During our art class, we talked about Jackson Pollock, too. Looking at his art in books or online is nothing compared to seeing it in person. There is so much texture and you can really see the movement! It gave me a new appreciation for his work.
Atticus was not digging the art museum.
We headed to Central Park after the museum so the kids could play and get some energy out. It was pretty incredible… walking through tall building and coming up to the park. It just looks so out of place and random in the middle of the city.
We played in the park for a long time. We wanted to wait until dark to head to Times Square, but that didn’t work out. The kids started to get cold and hungry. It worked out just fine, though because Times Square was incredibly busy and overwhelming. It was probably my least favorite place we visited on the entire trip!
Goose was pooped!
