My tiny baby is 4 weeks old today. I absolutely cannot believe it. As I was sitting here working on finishing up the birth story, I realized that exactly 4 weeks ago this very moment, Jean was telling us that she was keeping us at the birth center and we only a few hours away from meeting our little guy. Time sure flies….
Well the fourth week was a fantastic week. I think I figured out what was making Mr. Logan so fussy and made last week so incredibly hard. Chocolate. Yes, I know… I don’t even really care for chocolate (not like most women, at least) but breastfeeding has left me with some intense cravings for sweets… and we had a chocolate bar in the house. And not just any chocolate bar, but one of those fancy ones made from real chocolate and imported in from some exotic place. Anyway, I consumed said chocolate several times last week… and chocolate is on the list of ‘foods that can piss your baby off’ when you’re breastfeeding. Needless to say, not having any chocolate in my diet has improved Logan’s attitude.
We’ve also been working on getting his sleeping on track. He did have his days and nights mixed up… which makes for a very tired Momma. He is now sleeping for 4 hour stretches at night (a BIG improvement from the 1.5-2hr stretches we were getting), waking to get changed and eat, and then going right back down. We are starting to develop a schedule for the daytime, too. We generally spend a while in bed in the morning snuggling and nursing–my favorite part of the day. When we finally get up, Logan practices his exercises (as Chris calls it). We have tummy time, and lay on our back and stare at our friend the ceiling fan time (he’s obsessed with that thing!). This is also when Sarge and Max get their kisses in for the day. The weather has been nice so we’ve been spending some time outside, too. Then he generally gets antsy and wants to be worn in his MobyWrap while I clean. He loves to be in his carrier and look around at everything while I am piddling around the house. He’s actually the reason why the house got dusted the other day… I wanted to sit down and be lazy, but he would cry if I stopped moving. He’s such a busy little guy! I sometimes feel like a crazy person while I’m wearing him. I wind up narrating our day–talking to him and explaining every little thing I am doing. At least I have someone to talk to other than the dogs. We alternate between activities until he gets hungry and tired and we nurse to sleep. We have been working on Logan sleeping in his bassinet without the bouncy seat during his nap times, too. At night we are still having to use the bouncy seat (he likes the enclosed feeling of his bouncy seat, plus the vibration setting never turns off) but I am hoping that since we are able to sleep in only the bassinet during the day, we will soon be able to fade out the bouncy seat completely.
We are planning on introducing bottles to him this evening when Chris gets home. We have waited until he is 4 weeks and breastfeeding is established to avoid nipple confusion. It’s weird to think about someone else getting to feed him… since it’s been my sole responsibility for a whole month now. Well, I guess technically I am still feeding him since he’ll be drinking my expressed breast milk. It’s also a little exciting, cause now Daddy can get up for that 3am feeding on the weekends… and maybe Mommy can enjoy the occasional beer or a glass of wine. And I’m sure that his grandparents are looking forward to being able to feed him, too. Let’s just hope that he takes the bottle! 🙂
And now… the weekly photobomb. PS- I’m working on getting better about taking pictures with an actual camera and not my iPhone.

So handsome…

Little Logan looking at his ceiling fan friend. I seriously do not understand his fascination… it must be the contrast between the dark colored fan blades and the white ceiling.

Napping like a big boy in his bassinet! He loves white noise, so we downloaded an app on Chris’s old iPhone so Logan can listen to white noise any time (and we don’t have to give up our phones)!

Logan’s laying in the Bobby pillow (it’s covered by a blanket). Max thinks that pillow is his and doesn’t want to have to share with the baby!
