On day 19 we woke up at Ashley and Aaron’s house in a suburb outside of Denver. They moved from Texas a couple of years ago and this was our first time getting to visit them. After breakfast, we decided to go explore in the mountains. They took us to Echo Lake Park. The clouds were super thick!
We went on a short hike. It was such a beautiful area.
Ashley and Aaron’s son, Porter, is really in to Ninja Turtles… so naturally Atticus had to try it out.
Just like her Momma…. #hotmess.
Speaking of hot mess…. Atticus decided to throw a huge tantrum. It was fun times.
And while he was tantrumming, Lorelei decided that she needed to nurse. Oh jeez.
After our short hike at Echo Lake, we went to the Mount Evans Scenic Byway– the highest paved road in North America! We drove all the way to the top. Atticus got to see more snow. He loves “snow mountains”!
At the top there is a parking area where you can get out and take photos. We were at 14,130 ft! We could have hiked to the very top, but the kiddos started showing signs of altitude sickness so we had to get back down.
It was so interesting to see the difference in plant life as we got higher up the mountain. The lower part was full of trees. The top of the mountain had these cute little succulents and a few wildflowers and grasses.
On the drive down, we kept getting glimpses of these furry little guys. I have no idea what they are, but they love to pose, haha.
The altitude really got to my baby goose.
When we got back down the mountain and started feeling better, we went into the small town of Idaho Springs to have some Colorado style pizza. It was so freaking good!
Even the parking lots in Colorado are beautiful…
After dinner, we walked around the adorable little town. We found a cute little park so the kids could run off that pizza energy. It’s really awesome how well our kiddos got along! Look at L and P holding hands… <3
We ended the night with the boys jamming for a while. It was really fun trying to remember Khorina Vega songs from a million years ago!
Also… Ashley and I realized that we are morphing into twins. Ha, ha!
What a fun ending to an amazing trip! It was so, so, so good getting to see our friends! And now that we’ve seen how freaking awesome Colorado is, we are even more excited to go back in September! Yay!
