On day 18 we said goodbye to Yellowstone National Park and set out towards Colorado. We woke up at 4am and were on the road by 5. Our route from Montana actually took us through Yellowstone one last time and I’m so glad it did. There was zero traffic at 5 and the animals were everywhere. Plus, we got to see the sunrise. It was truly magical.

It was super foggy. Made the drive kind of eerie in certain spots!

We came across one of the herds of bison. They were everywhere! They look so funny because they’re in the middle of losing their winter coats–they’re all patchy and mangey looking. It was crazy being this close to them! I stayed in the truck (obviously), but some of them were literally just a foot or two away from from us standing in the road. The Momma bison with their babies made me nervous. A few of them locked eyes with me as if telling me to back the eff off. Actually, we learned a couple of days after being in Yellowstone that an elderly woman was butted by one of the bison while we were there. It doesn’t surprise me–we saw people being incredibly stupid and getting way too close to the animals.

Our drive also took us through part of Grand Teton National Park. I wish we could have spent some time here. It was beautiful.

We got to Colorado later that afternoon. We stayed right outside of Denver with our friends Aaron and Ashley and their kiddos. More on our CO adventures in the next post….
