Our little family had an eventful week! First and foremost, our TinyGuy took his first steps AND we caught it on video!!!
.
Now, he’s not walking around independently yet, but he’s getting very close! When he is near furniture or walls, he pretty much exclusively cruises. Otherwise, he will crawl. BUT with some coaxing, encouragement, and now a visible reinforcer (not shown in video!), he will take a couple of steps into my arms. He’s so big!
Also this week, I got to put my Heimlich Maneuver skills to the test. Yeah, totally not fun. Logan was eating dinner one night. He was chewing on one of his teething sticks and managed to bite the end of it off. He’s done this before and has managed to chew up the end of the stick with no problem. The issue here was that he bit off the end and then shoved a handful of O’s in his mouth before I realized what happened. We looked up and he was in full on choke mode. He had a look of sheer terror on his face and was trying to gasp for air, but couldn’t get any in. Somehow I managed to keep my cool and did the Heimlich. In fact, I didn’t even feel scared until it was all over. I surprised myself with how calm I remained during the whole thing… but afterwards was a completely different story. I thought my heart was going to beat out of my chest! So, my public service announcement for the week: if you don’t already know how to do the Heimlich on a baby (it’s different for babies than it is for adults), then please take a couple of minutes and watch this video:
.
We didn’t have to do the entire sequence. Three blows to the back, and the mass of food plopped out of his mouth and landed on the floor… and was quickly eaten by one of the dogs. I also hit him a whole lot harder than Captain Mustache in the video above. I guess my Momma instincts kicked in and knew what to do. Even though I didn’t feel scared during the choking, it was quite possibly the scariest moment to ever happen to us. I’m just thankful that he was okay!
That’s all of our major news for the week. Here are some random photos taken from this week:

He’s so stinkin’ cute! Sorry you had to have a near heart attack this week, but yay for the big boy taking steps!!!!!
Thanks! I think he’s pretty cute, too. 🙂 We are wanting to come to visit school soon. I’ll have to find out where your new classroom is! Hope you’re having a good year. I miss having you as a neighbor!
