Someone needs to call Jeff VanVonderen.  I am in desperate need of an intervention.  I am addicted to cloth diapers.  I bought 6 yesterday. Yes, six.  But I had to because they were on sale.  And it was an awesome sale.  I started out with 3, then when I couldn’t sleep this morning after Logan’s first changing/feeding, I laid in bed and justified the reasons why I needed to buy 3 more.  It didn’t take long to convince myself.  I bought the second batch this morning when TinyBaby wouldn’t go back to sleep after his second changing/feeding (4:45am).

So, the sale is buy 2 get 1 for free and then I found a coupon code online for an additional 10% off… plus I didn’t have to pay for shipping.  So, I paid $11 per diaper.  They are currently for sale at my local CD shop and some online retailers for $18.  So, justification #1 is that they really were a good deal.

My second justification is that I NEEDED the diapers.  Logan grew out of his tiny newborn diapers almost immediately.  This is what happens when you don’t lose any of your birth weight and decide to gain over a pound in your first week of life.  He has since decided to gain almost 4 lbs… and he is only a month old.  Yes, I gave birth to Baby Huey.  In my defense, I only bought 3 tiny newborn diapers to begin with because I knew the likelihood of birthing a huge baby since Chris was a chunker at birth.  Most of the diapers in our stash fit him shortly after birth and will continue to fit for a while since I can adjust the size.  Then I have several one size diapers that *should* fit until he is a toddler. I also have a few sized diapers .  My problem is that since Fat Baby eats so much, he is already peeing through the sized diapers unless I add some bulk for extra absorbancy.  And then he just looks ridiculous.  Like we should sing “Baby Got Back”  to him or something.  Luckily, the type that he is peeing through is almost too small for him and will soon have to be retired to the hand-me-down box for our future children.  That’s what I get for buying sized diapers.  So, adding the 6 that I bought today will replace the 3 newborn dipes that I have already retired, and the 4 size small that I will have to retire soon.

Justification #3– I WANTED them.  They are the Bum Genius Artist Series diapers.  I already had the yellow one… and now I will have all of them.  It’s like collecting baseball cards or something.  I finished out the collection.  A super cute collection if you ask me.  *We will also be getting 2 diapers that are just a solid color.  The colors on the website are listed as “Sweet” and “Bubble” but it’s not easy to tell exactly what color they are.  According to Google, “Sweet” is a very light, washed-out sage/green and “Bubble” is a very light, washed out purple.  I personally don’t care if they are hot pink, though I’m sure Pop Pop and Gramps would have something to say about that. 🙂

And my last justification… I DESERVED them.  We have only spent about $25 on diapers for Logan since he was born, whereas we would have spent significantly more if he were in disposables.  He was in disposables the first few days because I didn’t take into account how horrible postpartum recovery was going to be and didn’t have the energy to learn how to use the diapers and figure out a wash routine.  Plus, that meconium poop was disgusting and I didn’t want it all over my diapers… and his little cord stump freaked me out and I was worried about the cloth rubbing on it.  We slowly introduced the cloth over the second week until Chris and I got more and more comfortable.  So, with the disposables that we got at our baby showers, and supplementing with cloth as we learned how to use it, we only had to purchase diapers 2 times.  This purchase just makes up for all of the diaper purchases that weren’t made during his first month.  I probably could have bought 6 more diapers for what we have saved… especially with the way TinyBaby likes to go through diapers.

I’ll post pictures of my TinyBaby modeling the diapers when they get here. 🙂
