The week of the 4th of July we went to Mississippi to visit Chris’s family. We had a blast seeing everyone and can’t wait to go back! We took over 1,000 pictures. It was really hard to narrow them down, but here are our favorites:
.
Logan playing with his sweet little cousin Kinsley.
.
Family photo!
He can’t stand it when those things are up!
Getting some love from his Aunt Balinda.
Apparently being a zombie runs in the family!
Granny and PaPaw with their great-grandchildren.
Another family photo.
Every single person is looking at the camera except for my kid. Seriously?
Happy Independence Day!
Birds in the trees. Or so I thought. It was clouding up and looking like it was going to rain while we were outside taking family photos. I looked up and *thought* I saw the trees filled with birds. It was then pointed out that I am a crack head, and that I was actually looking at pine cones in the PINE trees. In my defense, we do not have many pine trees in Texas, and they really did look like little birds hiding in the trees because a storm was coming. Or maybe a scene out of the movie The Birds.
.
That boy loves his Nana!
So PROUD to be American…
Sweet cousin love.
This is quite possibly my favorite picture ever taken.
Logan likes going for a walk with his Great-Granny.
Logan looks cute… and Granny flips the bird.
Mmmm… toes!
After our big family dinner and taking tons of pictures, we went to see the fireworks show. Logan likes fireworks…
Fireworks out of focus creates beautiful bokeh.
Logan drove us home from the fireworks show.
.
The next day, we went toupee shopping for our bald baby. I think he looks handsome.
After our shopping excursion, we went to Kosciusko to visit where Chris’s grandparents on his Dad’s side used to live. They passed away in the 90’s, but Chris has so many great memories and stories from when he spent time there as a child and he wanted me to see it. We drove by their house and decided to go up and knock on the door. The nice lady that lives there now let us on to the property to take pictures so we could document it for Logan to see someday. Apparently it had changed quite a bit, but there were still parts that were the same.
Chris’s grandfather made this. I wanted so badly to take it home with us. We need a trough for Petey.
Chris said that he and Grandpa used to sit on this swing and sing songs about Grandpa’s dog, Sarge (our Sarge’s namesake).
I also wanted to take this one home!
In the old barn, there was actually still stuff that belongs to Chris’s grandparents. We went through some of it and found some old slides and an old camera.
On the way back to Jackson, we took the Natchez Trace Parkway. Along the way there are little stops to read about the history and ecology of the area. There are also some nature trails that we decided to explore. And of course, take pictures… a few of which I am super proud of.
.
I just realized that it looks like we are wearing matching outfits. Gross.
The next day we got up and went to Philadelphia to visit Granny and PaPaw’s farm. They have some land out there that belonged to PaPaw’s Dad and Mom. In fact, this is the house that he grew up in. It is over 75 year old.
They have pear trees that were exploding with pears. The branches couldn’t even hold them up!
There are acres of pine trees that Granny and PaPaw planted themselves. All by hand. Amazing.
Fig trees because Granny loves figs… and apparently so do I! I had never had a fig until this trip.
It’s a bird! 😉
Flower from a kudzu plant.
Granny had some ice cream bars in the freezer. Logan had a taste of Momma’s. He didn’t like it at first.
Napping with his Baby dog.
That night, Nana watched Logan while Pop Pop, the Daddy and the Momma went to Vicksburg for some grown up time at the casino!
I won $150! Well, technically we spent $100 between the 2 of us, so we only walked away with $50. Better than losing money, though!
On the way home. Coco basking in the sun and probably trying to not puke again.
Someone was a very tired boy.
We let Logan drive us home.
.
Logan had so much fun meeting his extended family and we are so grateful that we got a chance to spend some quality time with everyone. We are going to make an effort to visit more often so TinyFat will know that side of the family!
