Day 11. The kids and I woke up in the v-berth of Julie’s boat with the sun shining in on our faces. Our boat slumber party was quite an adventure! I can now safely say that living on a boat with 3 kids is not something I would ever want to do. When we were awake, I was constantly worried that one of them would sneak out and fall in the water. And yes, they had on life vests when the door was open, but still–I didn’t want to have to go in after them. That water is cold!

The kids nosed around in Julie’s stuff. Apparently Atticus hid some stuff. It’s so hard having your kids in someone else’s space. Especially when that person doesn’t have kids. I just feel this constant anxiety about them breaking something.

Tucker was glad to be home and ready for us to be out of his space.

After hitting up a cute little cafe for breakfast, we trekked over to the North side of the island to visit the McMillin Mausoleum. It was so cool seeing this place in person. Chris and I had first heard about it on the Lore podcast. I can’t wait to bring him back here when he arrives in a couple of days!

The mausoleum is a memorial and final resting place for members of the McMillin family. Each chair around the table contains the ashes of one of the family members. A great deal of thought and symbolism was put into the construction of the site with elements pulled from the Methodist faith and Masonic beliefs.

Atticus has somehow wrapped Julie around his little finger, haha.

After our visit to the mausoleum, we drove down to South Beach. This was my favorite place. I could have sat there all day watching and listening to the waves crash on the beach.

This beach was full of driftwood–even more than Dead Man’s Bay. The boys worked on building a fort.

We left the beach and headed back to the ferry station. We had some time to kill, so we walked around the port.

The kids and I boarded the ferry and said goodbye to Friday Harbor and Julie–until this weekend, at least! Tomorrow, we head for Seattle to meet Chris. His flight comes in Friday night!
